Noosa Youth Advocacy Group Purpose

Born from the interest and ideas generated by students involved in our programs we have created the Noosa Youth Advocacy Group (NYAG) as safe space for the sharing of ideas and to support our regions youth. Noosa EEHub has already provided many opportunities for youth employment and has become an integral part of our community by providing youth input on a wide range of youth issues and key strategies that shape the future for our region.

NYAG meets once a month and is made up of a diverse group of young people in all forms of schooling. They represent their school communities and work to improve their campus sustainability. NYAG delivered the highly successful 2021 Youth Climate Summit and we welcome you to participate in the follow up event the 2024 Custodians Of Place - Youth Climate Conference.

The Noosa Youth Advocacy Group:

  • provides a safe and welcoming space for young people to highlight issues, needs and aspirations important to them and relevant to local government and community and environmental groups

  • builds confidence, skills and knowledge in young people, including leadership, communication, team work and project management skills

  • supports the generation of youth employment opportunities for youth in our region

  • provides advice and suggestions to the Council regarding issues affecting the youth of Noosa

  • helps forge new connections with likeminded peers and network with key community members

  • provides essential input from youth on key strategies such as the Noosa River Plan and the Climate Adaptation Response Plan.

  • educates young people about local government, the structure within it and the role it plays in the Noosa Shire.

  • provides youth employment pathways and training

  • supports our participants passions and explore interest areas within and connected to environmental conservation.

Supporting Youth Career Pathways Jolie May

We have supported a number of our NYAG graduates to achieve great things!

Jolie May a 2022 NYAG Graduate showed great interest in Marine Sciences and is already a well known nature videographer and Marine Champion. We were able to connect Jolie with the Noosa Integrated Catchment Association and she completed her work experience week alongside lead Marine Ecologist Peter Hunamm who we are fortunate to have as part of our community. She was given the opportunity to also feature in the wonderful short film now available on ABC iView. Oyster Gardener follows Jolie on her exploration of the Noosa River Oyster Regeneration Project and our Marine Science curriculum extension. Her Marine Science class also became involved in the monitoring of the oyster baskets and feature in the film. Special thanks to Regen Studios, The Nature Conservancy and ABC

Jolie and Jemima (another NYAG Graduate) have also set up a youth employment enterprise in response not their concerns for youth employment in the region. Our regions future depends on our regions youth, they have great ideas if we are willing to listen!

Providing a Voice For Our Regions Youth

The Noosa Youth Advocacy Group is an informed group of passionate young people from across the Noosa Biosphere who are making meaningful change for their communities. They have been providing input on a range of strategies for the region which is incredibly valueable for economic and environmental integrity. Many young people are unable to stay on the Sunshine Coast due to a lack of youth employment opportunities. As a result the group is keen to lend its thoughts on a range of planning processes which will affect their futures. Have a strategy or plan that requires input from youth? Contact NYAG today to find out how we can help.
