Noosa Youth Advocacy Group

Delivers Australia’s First Youth Climate Summit

Delivered by Youth for Youth.

What a success Australia’s first Youth Led Climate Summit was! The Noosa Youth Advocacy Group presented the climate science with the ease to a group of like minded peers. The group then received downloads from some of the regions key environmental groups and summit participants generated a raft of ideas to take back to their schools and communities. These will be collated over the coming week and reported to Noosa Council and State Government. The time for action is now and our first major petition to be generated from the event will be to lower the voting age to 16 years of age. We must allow the voices of this generation to be heard and counted! Stay tuned for details.

The outcomes of the summit will be shared on this page. Some key targets from the Summit include:

  • lowering the voting age to 16,

  • achieving zero emissions in our schools and households,

  • composting and reducing emissions from organic waste in landfill,

  • utilising sustainable transport solutions,

  • advocating with our elected politicians.

One thing for sure our region is well endowed in intelligent, caring young people who want to effect real change. All participants are invited to continue this great work by joining the Noosa Youth Advocacy Group (NYAG) here.

If our leaders continue with all talk and no action, they are unrightfully throwing away our future. I would like to see politicians coming together with a plan and start putting that plan into action. It has to be a consistent thing. No more talk. It is time for action. Actions speak louder than words”.

I think Climate Change is a very important current issue that needs to be addressed and as we are the next generation I think it’s vital that we do something about it.

‘Net zero emissions’ is an overall balance between greenhouse gas emissions produced and greenhouse gas emissions taken out of the atmosphere.

Zero Positive is a world-first emissions reduction program, endorsed by the United Nations, and developed specifically to empower Australian schools and their communities with the right tools, education and support to begin the journey towards reaching net zero emissions targets and becoming climate positive.

Reducing our reliance on single use and plastic packaging is just one step to an ultimate solution. Alternative packaging is an absolute must and its time for companies to take action on their companies sustainability cycle. A circular economy should be the norm within todays society. Companies should be responsible for the full cycle of their products creation delivery and recycling. The Noosa EEHub is proud to promote businesses in our Shire who are already applying these philosophies to their business practices.

Circular Economies

The circular economy is a new way to think about how to design, make, use and manage products and resources. It includes elements of industrial ecology, lean manufacturing, sustainable business operations and product design.

Circular economy is an economic model which seeks to decouple economic activity from the consumption of renewable and finite resources. It represents a shift away from the current linear economic model based on the ‘take-make-dispose’ approach to managing products and resources.
